CHOCOHOLIC is the best word to describe a person who craves or compulsively consumes chocolate. The term "chocoholic" came from the words "chocolate" and "alcoholic".
I read an article entitled, Does Chocolate Addiction Exist? by Jane Collingwood. We crave for chocolates because of our emotional state and not the actual hunger. Women are more chocoholic than men. They insist that it is a habit forming and produces an instant feeling of well being. Serotonin is released when we eat sweets and is a high-fat food.
Researchers believe that chocolate is not a true addiction. It is composed of sensory characteristics. The sweetness, texture and aroma — nutrients, and chemicals, together with hormonal and mood swings, largely explains chocolate cravings.
Chocolate may be ''naughty but nice" — tasty, but something which should be resisted. This suggests that the desire is more likely a cultural phenomenon than a physical one. The inability to control eating may be a result of inborn traits and today’s environment.
According to Baylor College of Medicine researcher Dr. Ken Goodrick “Humans used to have to search for food, now food searches us out.”
I agree with that because since the beginning of time, man already searches for food source to sustain his need for energy to do different activities. Now with the combination of science and technology, more and more different varieties of food are being invented and produced especially chocolates.

Chocolates are not that really addictive, we are only overwhelmed with different effective media advertisements like commercials, posters, print ads and many more. We are only obsessed with the thinness of it. The sweetness and good vibes the chocolate brings every time you're eating one. It serves as a comfort food and energy booster. The stress of modern living often makes us turn to food for comfort, then return to a restrictive diet. The attempt to restrain ourselves before we are satisfied increases the desire for chocolate.
I read another article entitled "The girl who can only eat chocolate" by INKBLOT. It states there that too much eating of chocolate can cause autism. This disability is called Asperger Syndrome which means difficulty in communicating and interacting with others which can lead to high levels of anxiety and confusion. It is a form of autism that can last for a life time. This condition have difficulties in three main areas; social communication, social interaction and social imagination.
In social communication, the person who is having this kind of disability will has difficulty in gestures, facial expressions and they don't know when to start or end a conversation choosing a topic to talk about. While in social interaction, they struggle in socializing and maintaining friendships. They find other people unpredictable and confusing. Lastly, the social imagination is the trouble in working out what other people know. They imagine alternative outcomes to situations and finding it hard to predict what will happen next.
This only proves that we should balance the food that we eat everyday. Always remember that too much sweetness is bad for your health.
